Blame it on the hormones! That isn’t just an excuse – it’s a reality. Each hormone is like an instrument in an orchestra. When they are playing together, in harmony, they sound amazing. But what happens if a player or an instrument goes awry and suddenly plays out of tune? Or another instrument is missing a string? Then another plays too fast or too slow. It is important for all hormones to work together and to get the things they need to function optimally.
Hormone Optimization
Hormones, including thyroid, testosterone, estrogens, progesterone, cortisol, insulin, and many others, send special messages to tissues and organs in the body and tell them what to do and when to do it. They are important for regulating most major bodily processes, so a hormonal imbalance can affect a wide range of bodily functions. Some symptoms include, but are not limited to:
- Weight gain/trouble losing weight
- Brain fog/memory problems
- Hair loss
- Insomnia/sleep problems
- Depression
- Anxiety and/or irritability
- Food cravings
- Decreased libido
- Joint pain
- Fatigue
- Hot flashes
- Night sweats
- Urinary incontinence
- High blood pressure or cholesterol
- Muscle loss/weakness
- Cold hands and feet

We use bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), or hormones that are derived from plant estrogens that are chemically identical to those the human body produces and come in various forms, including pills, patches, creams, gels, troches, and injections. This is different from traditional HRT in which the hormones are made from the urine of pregnant horses and other synthetic means.
Every year our organs produce less hormones. By age 50, they are around 50%. They protect the brain, nervous system, bones, muscles, joints, and more. Every organ in body has hormone receptors, so a deficiency can cause disease! Therefore, in addition to helping with symptoms, hormone replacement therapy may also reduce your risk for diabetes, dementia, heart disease, tooth loss, and cataracts to name a few. There’s also some evidence that it can help improve skin thickness, hydration, and elasticity, and even reduce wrinkles.
